Miley Cyrus in a wrinkled Jenny Packham gown: unflattering or cute?

Miley Cyrus was at the American Giving Awards Friday night, same as LeAnn Rimes. Now… I give Miley more credit than most people. I think she’s smarter, more self-aware and more independent than most of the Disney people put together, and Miley has really taken herself out of the famewhore game this year, and I admire that. Yes, she probably smokes pot and she probably parties more than she should, but I think it speaks volumes that she’s not falling out of clubs and being an in-our-faces party-girl. She’s partying, and for the most part, she’s partying with friends and she’s doing it quietly. She got back with Liam Hemsworth, they live together now and Miley is rarely photographed, nor does she go to the opening of an envelope anymore. I think it’s smart of her to cull her public appearances, and it’s nice that her first red carpet in months was for an event about charity work.

But… her appearance. Yikes. Much of what’s wrong is just superficial styling stuff. Miley is wearing this wrinkled Jenny Packham dress, which isn’t the right color for her. Plus, it’s a badly cut dress and the whole effect is just unflattering. I like that Miley’s not “Look at mah biscuit, y’all, check out by boobs too!” – this is conservative for her. But it’s just a bad dress overall. The biggest problem? Miley’s hair and face. Look, the girl has been smoking weed, she’s gotten munchies and she’s put on some weight. It’s not a big deal, and she still has an enviable figure. But some of the weight has gone to her face, and when that happens, ladies, the worst thing you can do is give yourself a Croydon facelift. Pulling your hair that tight just makes your face look fuller. As for Miley’s hair… she needs to take some inches off. Her hair looks really gross and damaged.

So, overall… I’m happy to see Miley, and I’m glad she came out for a good cause. But she needs a new style to go with her new curves, and she needs to find some new hair people.

Between the hair style and the gown colour and style, the look is very aging on her. Late-30s is not how old a kid should look.

But it also doesn’t help that she’s not wearing it with any kind of presence – she doesn’t look confident. She makes me want to snap “Stand up straight, young lady!”

    • JaneWonderfalls says:

I agree although the outfit itself and even overall look would have looked better on someone in their late 20’s to 30’s but it just does not look great on her, something is off to me. I think it’s great that people are growing up and maturing but she’s still rather young I think having her hair looser instead of a snatch back would have maybe even changed the over all look for the better. J. Lo should have been wearing this not Miley.

  2. BLACK JACK says:

    Her eyes! Beautiful!

  3. Rita says:

Its a nice dress but the wrinkles really distract. A mullet might add something.

  4. daisydoodle says:

As much as they clean some of these celebrities up, I always have a sense that they all smell like stale cigarettes, blah!

  5. Weena says:

Her hands are not cute. She has stubby grubby fingers and all that bulky jewelry is not helping. Her hair does look terrible, what is that disgusting two toned tail? How dank is her bud that it makes her she thinks that looks good?

  6. CTgirl says:

Totally off. Bad dress, bad hair, bad accessories, bad everything.

  7. KLO says:

She’s a very cute girl but the dress and the hair look weird. Bad styling. She could look so much better.

  8. The Original Denise says:

It just bothers me that these teenage girls in Hollywood already live with their boyfriends. Most girls her age are in college, not playing house. Oh, well….I must be really old fashioned.

    • someone says:

you are not! I’m 20 and I think it’s too soon…but hey, what do I know?

    • GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

I used to think that way too…until I realized that most of my high school classmates were having babies (yes, plural), had received little to no college education (when they certainly had the means and the ability to do it), and were in other situations related to all of that stuff. I’m old-fashioned but I kind of figure…hey, more people are doing that route than what I previously thought.

I don’t care for the dress or the hair, but I must disagree that her face looks bad or bloated. I can’t tell any difference in the fullness of her face, but even if it is fuller, she’s damn lucky. As we age our faces lose fat and we look bony and wrinkled. I’m damn envious of the babyfat she’s got goin’ in facially. Lucky wench! Lol (Now is the time when I admit that I freakin’ love that song “Party in the U.S.A.” lol)

This would have looked great if it wasn’t wrinkled, she was 35, and she had cut her hair off where it started getting blonde. And she lost the tacky jewelry and did her nails in something other than goth blue or whatever that is. Other than that it’s a good look.

  11. Joey says:

A darker color would have been nice, too.

  12. MerryHappy says:

That has to be a hair piece. Her hair is only shoulder length

  13. MerryHappy says:

Btw her nose looks tweaked and lohan ish..mn

  14. Cathy says:

I believe her face is to fat for her hair, time to wear it more flowing and down. Make the dress darker, and put your boobies away. I don’t want to see them

  15. samira677 says:

I like the dress but Miley should have chosen a different color since this one washes her out. I don’t get the comment that she gained a lot of weight. I don’t follow her but I don’t see a big change. She’s always had a round face. With her hair pulled back it just looks more noticeable. Also the ponytail is a hair piece. Her hair isn’t that long.

  16. bitchy fan says:

She has an equine-face. Her look is not classically beautiful or pretty. Her look is average at best. If she were stripped of her money, fame and styling (even this horrible styling) she would look very abercrombie meets trailer park meets low-rent mall rat. Her extensions look horrible too. Agreed, pulling her hair so tightly back is for beautiful women – not Miley Cyrus. It only brings attention of the face. She needs styling that detracts from her face. Plus, it is not as if what comes out of her mouth is endearing, sweet or cultured. That isn’t owed to her age. It’s owed to her class. Listening to her on an interview made my ears bleed.

smart people dont smoke weed. you give her too much credit.

  18. midnightmoon says:

An emerald or hunter green for the dress, with someone actually caring enough to fit HER to the dress, would be a great start. Then, get rid of the horse’s tale, and wear some damn gloves. She may mor may not make it out of her 20s with her dignity intact. When I think that Angelina Jolie is 36 and Lilo is 25, and I feel like I’ve been plagued w/their presence my whole life, I think it’s correct that Miley has made a great call & stepped out of the glare for a while. I am not nauseous at the sight of her anymore. Lots of ‘stars’ could take a page from her playbook & I wouldn’t complain. It’s a tough life-if you disappear, you risk irrelevancy; if you stay front burner, you end up burning yourself AND your audiene out. I’m just about done with the gossip sites. I am soooo tired, unamused, and horrified. I am cooked. (We’ll see how long this lasts) :B

  19. serena says:

Hair are not damaged ’cause that are not her real hair. Anyway I agree, and too much rings. ugh

  20. I agree on most everything you said, except that I think the dress is good. Her styling is killing it- too much junk jewelry along with the hair and wrinkles- it just doesn’t work, but I’m glad to see her tryign t ocurb the train wreck image. Good luck, Miley.

  21. Cher says:

She does look very pretty here but I do see a resemblance of Kim K., perhaps the makeup and hair and even the show of cleavage?

  22. ShanKat says:

Ombre pony…I totally get the hair!

I think she looks nice. Love the lower profile and the cheeks.

  23. JudyK says:

Going to give her a pass here, except to say, “What HORRID posture.”

  24. Dhavy says:

it’s too busy and the color of the dress is not good for her skin tone. Maybe if her hair would have been a little loose she wouldn’t look so bad

  25. eloisa says:

She looks great. I am not a fan of her dress but c’mon, she looks healthy and good. thanks god she isn’t doing any surgery nor extreme diet. Good for her.

  26. mssnarnd says:

She’s soooo close to pulling her look all together. She just needs a better stylist who knows how to tie up the loose ends. She’s a very pretty girl, and she seems to be open to a more sophisticated look for attending high profile events (by continuing to “improve”). She just needs a little help. I like her. I think she’s “real.”

  27. Annie says:

At the risk of sounding like my grandmother, I have to say that Miley’s posture is a look- killer. She is young and should not look round shouldered. I agree with all comments about her styling, hair, etc, but want her to quit slouching!

  28. TxGal says:

This stupid girl might have all the money in the world, but she has no class in dressing up, No taste and so far what she has worn has not been flattering at all. Instead she looks like an old hag. I didn’t notice before until someone here mentioned it but her hands are horrible and the jewelry she is wearing is not helping at all.

  29. Anodyne says:

She looks chunky, chipmunkey and my gawd how is it possible she could leave the house in a dress that sloppy? I get not having a great stylist but does she have eyes in her head to see the disaster of wrinkles? Money is wasted on the wrong people!

  30. Jover says:

Great comments esp. rita, txgal and anodyne – she has never had good posture, and I am tired of all these talentless disney tweens inflicting their terrible corporate music on the younger set. Honestly, she has no talent, can’t sing, act, dance, play an instrument. Query, would we even know of her if she wasn’t first a disney product?

    • Seal Team 6 says:

Ultimately, it has little to do with Disney. Her father is Billy Ray Cyrus and her godmother is Dolly Parton. Also, her non-corporate music is quite good.

  31. Snowflake says:

I think she looks fine. Yeah, a darker dress color would have been better but she’s a pretty girl, she looks good anyway.

  32. novaraen says:

Zitty forehead and bloated body….plus wrinkled terrible washed out dress = YUCK.

  33. StephanieMarie25 says:

    Wow.
She’s what I picture a young Blanche Deveraux looking like 😛

  34. I Choose Me says:

Dress needed some ironing or steam-pressing or something but I gotta say I love it. Who do I kill to get that dress…er, one just like it for myself?

Oh yeah, Miley looks cute in it too. She should have chosen a different hairstyle though and wtf with the spider lashes? I fricken hate spider lashes.

  35. Seal Team 6 says:

I like Miley. She’s a good old girl who acts like a college-aged kid is supposed to act. I find her refreshingly normal and candid, and she gets props from me for following her conscience and not Disney’s, and for her rockin’ duet with Joan Jett on “Oprah.”

  36. Jover says:

Seriously seal team 6 “rockin” with joan jett i was embarassed for Joan – rockin is Hendrix santana zepellin sabbath the stones, etc. not this no talent hack that is a studio label creation. You are kidding or is this an example of how far standards have fallen re what constitutes “rockin” out.
